Nottingham, 1978-1988
The Nottingham period comprises the formative years, studying Fine Arts at Trent University (formerly Trent Polytechnic) and the subsequent dedication to painting and the graphic arts. This is the eighties, with high unemployment, few job opportunities and the lost generation. It is the period of the "winter of our discontent"- the miner's strike. It is also perhaps the reason why many artists, without jobs to distract them, sharpened their critical vision in this post-punk world.
